About the Hospital
Korean Medicine Hospital
The Korean Medical Hospital of Kyung-hee University started with the departments of Internal Medicine, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Acupuncture and Moxibustion, etc. on October 5, 1971(3 hospitals and 100 beds).
It is a member of Kyunghee Medical Center, along with the affiliated Western Medical Hospital and Dental Hospital. After the opening, we succeeded in anesthetizing a subject of appendectomy by acupuncture on September 9, 1972.
We added 50 beds (3 hospitals and 420 beds) on December 10, 1973 and also the formal title was changed from the Korean Clinic to the Korean Medical Hospital by the revision of the Medical Law on March 1, 1974.
The Korean Medical Hospital of Kyung-hee University also succeeded in anesthetizing a subject of Caesarean operation by acupuncture on March 22, 1976, and held the first International Academic Conference of Korean Medicine on October 29, 1976.
We invented the preliminary medical examination appliances of Korean Medicine and made the data auto-recorded on September 16, 1977.
On September 5, 1977, the 6th anniversary, we moved into the newly-built wards. On April 8, 1978, we gained the permission of 200 beds and on March 31, 1979 the newly established pharmacy laboratory enabled us to introduce the modernization and automation of Korean Medicine for the first time in Korea and to extract herb medicine into powder formula. Then came the publishing of a collection of Korean Medicine materials in July, 1981.
On February 1, 1987 by the application of medical insurance by the government to the field of Korean Medicine, we got the approval of the medical insurance.
On July 24, 1995 we expanded into 400 beds and got its permission.
On the 26th anniversary of 1997, we changed the collection of Korean Medicine materials and published the Kyung-hee Collection of prescription with the amended version, making the Korean Medicine scientific and standard.
Through a well-conceived long-term plan, the hard work of our members and the support of Kyunghee University, we are the leading organization in the field of Korean medicine in Korea and at present in March, 2010 we have the 400 beds, 8 special departments, and the subsidiary administrative office, the preliminary medical office and the medicine office. We have a staff of 50 specialists, 90 training doctors, 70 nurses, and aides totaling more than 300 employees that treat more than 400,000 outpatients and 120,000 inpatients per year.
By February 2010, we had turned out about 320 specialists since we had the first specialist in 1976. Now in March 2010, 29 interns, 65 residents (3 years of residency) are in training, and the total number comes to 94.
